This painting, titled “Memorial to the Martyrs of Dehmazang,” is dedicated to the victims of the Enlightenment Movement — those martyrs who, on July 23, 2016 (2 Asad 1395), lost their lives during a peaceful demonstration at Dehmazang Square in Kabul while standing for justice, equality, and a brighter future. The blurred structures and flowing colors of the canvas echo blood, ashes, and tears. Amid the green and purple tones, silhouettes of birds and flowers emerge — symbols of innocence, departure, and lives that were abruptly cut short. This work is more than a painting; it is a visual document of collective suffering and, at the same time, a light of remembrance showing that the blood of the martyrs has not fallen silent. “Memorial to the Martyrs of Dehmazang” is a tribute to a silent cry bound to the future — a reminder that justice and freedom will ultimately find their way.
